Sheet Uniaxial Compression (UAC) Testing
Not all metals exhibit similar responses (and thus mechanical properties) under monotonic tension versus compression loading; a phenomenon known as the “Bauschinger Effect”. Characterizing this requires the ability to perform compression testing, which is not straightforward when it comes to sheets! We use our custom-built anti-buckling device, integrated with our DIC, to enable:
- Controlled monotonic compression testing to generate compressive stress/strain curves (plastic strains as high as 10%)
- For AHSSs, steels, aluminium alloys and magnesium alloys
- For sheet thickness as low as 0.75mm
- For cold and warm forming operations
